HongKong is gearing up for an unprecedented festive spectacle this Christmas as the city stages "Merry Balloon," a large-scale cartoon balloon parade that will see nearly 20 beloved international and local IP characters transformed into giant helium balloons soaring above Victoria Harbor.
Organizers say the event will turn Hong Kong into a dreamlike playground, bringing festive cheer from busy shopping boulevards to tucked-away neighbourhoods. The aerial parade is only the centrepiece: "Merry Balloon" is billed as the city's first-ever IP collaboration of this scale and will be accompanied by a citywide treasure-hunt experience leading residents and visitors through a trail of surprises at the territory's most iconic attractions.
The program is designed to appeal to families and fans of all ages. Alongside the harbor spectacle, participating venues across the city will host themed activities and pop-up installations, encouraging people to explore Hong Kong's cultural and scenic highlights while hunting for hidden festive treats and character-themed collectibles.
Event organizers describe the initiative as both a celebration and a boost for local tourism and retail. "We want to create joyful, memorable moments for everyone who comes to Hong Kong this season," they said, adding that the multi‑IP collaboration aims to showcase the city's ability to host large-scale, creative public events that blend entertainment, culture and commerce.
With the holiday season approaching, residents and international visitors are invited to the "ultimate winter party" in Hong Kong — a festive, family-friendly celebration that promises to spread warmth and laughter across the city and create lasting holiday memories.
