Layered design brings motion to 'Shenzhen Wall'

Writer: Cao Zhen  |  Editor: Zhang Chanwen  |  From: Original  |  Updated: 2025-11-19

“Shenzhen Wall,” a popular photo spot featuring the word “Shenzhen” in OCT-LOFT, has a fresh new look.

Previously the wall displayed the Chinese characters “深圳” alongside the English word “Shenzhen” in pixel-art style. This time, multiple ropes printed with the Chinese characters hang in front of a wall printed with the English word, creating a layered, overlapping effect. As viewers walk past the wall, changing perspectives produce a subtle sense of dynamic interplay.

“The ‘Shenzhen Wall’ serves as a creative medium and a vehicle for communication,” said Bi Xuefeng, who led the new visual design. “It symbolizes that whether Shenzhen or OCT‑LOFT, all parties should join forces to drive the development of our ‘City of Design.’”

Bi is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the China Academy of Art. As one of the earliest designers to have a studio in OCT‑LOFT, he took part in the park’s early visual planning and has been both a witness to and a driving force behind its creative ecosystem. He said the new design emphasizes the relationship between environmental storytelling and public engagement.
