“Childhood Innocence in Ink — Works by Tang Dinghua” opened at Peng Bao Xuan Art Gallery in Nanshan District on Tuesday.
Tang, who is from Wuxi in Jiangsu Province, previously made a strong impression on Shenzhen audiences with his childhood-themed paintings in a solo exhibition at the Guan Shanyue Art Museum in early October.

Still centered on memories of youth, the new show invites visitors to revisit the joys and carefreeness of childhood as Peng Bao Xuan celebrates its 18th anniversary.
The curatorial statement praises the artist’s choice to focus on the playful spirit of children. In paintings such as “Rooster Fighting,” “Playing with Paper Boats,” and “Making Pinwheels,” Tang appears to join in the children’s games rather than merely observe them.
Beyond scenes of play, the works explore bonds between classmates, grandparents and grandchildren, mother and child, and siblings. Through sincere human affection, Tang seeks to move viewers and offer a sense of warmth and emotional sustenance.

The exhibition presents 32 carefully selected works that unfold one moment of childhood after another. Tang not only recounts childhood anecdotes but also showcases the distinctive beauty and expressive qualities of Chinese ink painting.
Tang is a professor at the School of Design, Jiangnan University, in Wuxi. He graduated from the China Academy of Art in 1982, is a member of the China Artists Association, and serves as a postgraduate supervisor at Jiangnan University’s School of Design.
