On the morning of Nov. 29, a 34-hour human-car mountaineering relay kicked off at Dayan Peak in Dapeng New Area. Thirty-six teams took on the challenge of climbing more than 8,000 meters of cumulative elevation across 10 consecutive peaks, using cars as the primary means of transport.

The field included alumni and business-school squads from the Guanghua School of Management at Peking University and Sun Yat-sen University, as well as NGOs such as the Shenzhen Rescue Volunteers Federation. Many participants have completed major domestic and international events like Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB); some are Mount Qomolangma summiteers and national first-class athletes.

The winning team finished the course in 7 hours and 35 minutes. Their relay, powered by sheer effort, embodied Shenzhen’s philosophy of a healthy life in which people and nature coexist, co-create, and grow together.

The event combined athletic competition with in-depth cultural themes and introduced several innovations. A 34-hour, marathon-style livestream showcased Shenzhen’s 10 summits, serving as a mobile outdoor exploration class. The broadcast brought together experts and local outdoor enthusiasts to discuss urban planning, extreme challenges, and public participation. From these perspectives they offered in-depth analysis of Shenzhen’s high-quality mountain-and-sea outdoor resources and shared practical mountaineering tips, creating a multifaceted synergy of sporting passion, public education, and city resource promotion.

The successful staging of the event provided solid support for Shenzhen’s strategic goals of becoming an internationally renowned sports city and a world-class tourist destination. Its greatest strategic significance lies in serving as a core driver of the “Eco-Life Festival” initiative, demonstrating Shenzhen’s swift action and precise alignment with national strategies.

After the Dapeng Peninsula was selected as one of the first national high-quality outdoor-sport destination development areas, the well-established Shenzhen 10 Summits Warriors IP was quickly deployed there, with its starting point set at Xichong in Dapeng — a move that symbolizes Shenzhen’s outdoor-sports sector standing at a new national-level starting point.

The event was guided by the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Culture, Media, Tourism and Sports, and co-organized by the Shenzhen Mountaineering and Outdoor Sports Association and DeepRock Group.
