Meaning:

“程序员” means “programmer,” and “节” means “festival.” A programmer is the person who develops and tests programs for devices such as computers and smartphones. In China, Oct. 24 has been designated as “Programmer’s Day,” because the number 1,024 is 2 to the 10th power, a basic unit in the binary number system and computing. As 1 GiB equals 1,024 MiB, people also say 1 GiB represents the Chinese characters “一级棒” (yījíbàng, meaning “awesome”). Some people have called on programmers to refuse working overtime on this day.

Example:

A: 你弟弟干什么工作?

Nǐ dìdi gàn shénme gōngzuò?

What does your younger brother do for a living?

B: 他是一家互联网公司的工程师。他的生日是十月二十四日,程序员节,仿佛干这一行是命中注定的。

Tā shì yījiā hùliánwǎng gōngsī de gōngchéngshī。Tā de shēngrì shì shíyuè èrshísì rì,chéngxùyuánjié,fǎngfú gàn zhèyīháng shì mìngzhōng zhùdìng de。

He’s an engineer in an Internet company. He was born on Oct. 24, Programmer’s Day. It seems that working in this business is his fate.
