All sports facilities in Shenzhen will be accessible to the public and can be used through reservation, including those in schools, as the city plans to encourage fitness-for-all activities and establish a higher-level public service system for fitness-for-all programs, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported Thursday.
Shenzhen has been attaching great importance to the development of sports in the city, an important means for improving people’s fitness and health, and strives to build itself into an internationally renowned city of sports, the Daily said.
Last year, Futian, Nanshan and Luohu districts opened all of their sports venues, such as soccer fields and badminton courts, to the public. Residents can make reservations via WeChat public accounts “福田文体通,”“南山文体通”and “罗湖文体通” on their mobile phones. More than 2 million people made reservations in four months.
This year, the city will add a “one-click reservation” function to the “i深圳” app to allow fitness enthusiasts to make reservations for any sports venues in the city as they like.
Shenzhen is now home to 31,000 various sports facilities and has seen an increase of around 100 newly built and upgraded urban in-building sports facilities every year.
In the future, Shenzhen plans to build a new batch of major sports facilities, press ahead with Phase II project of the juvenile soccer training base in Guangming District and the renovation of Shenzhen Sports Center in Futian District, build more sports facilities in communities, and support providing sports facilities in municipal parks, transportation hubs, tourist attractions and street parks, according to the report.
In order to encourage the public to participate in outdoor activities, Shenzhen will build an additional 60 kilometers of greenways and 230 kilometers of country trails this year.
The paving and upgrading of promenades through forests and hiking trails will keep progressing to provide the public a chance of enjoying the beauty of mountains and the sea.
The city will also continue to deepen the integration of sports and education, as well as sports and health by guiding students to spend more spare time taking part in sports events, which can help correct children’s short sightedness and help them maintain a healthy weight.
Moreover, the development of water sports, ice-and-snow sports, e-sports and other emerging sports projects will also be encouraged and facilitated.
