Shenzhen is speeding up the construction of major infrastructure projects to meet their deadlines and ensure the safety and stability of industrial and supply chains.
At the construction site of the Mawan Cross-sea Passage in Qianhai, the city’s first cross-sea channel, over 800 workers were busy yesterday with the 8.05-kilometer project.
After the passage’s completion in 2023, it will separate passenger and freight traffic, thus reducing traffic pressure, according to the city’s transport bureau.
“Work on the underground section started in July last year, and around 30 workers are working on the tunnel boring machine and 214 meters have been finished so far,” project manager Gan Wenshuang said during an interview yesterday.
“Although the pandemic has disrupted the progress to some extent, we are working hard to meet the deadline,” Gan said.
The tunnel boring work on Chunfeng Tunnel in Luohu District has progressed for 1,675 meters and over 400 workers are working at the 5.08-kilometer project.
“We are using the largest homemade slurry shield machine and progress about 5 meters a day,” said Chen Chunbin, the project manager. Upon completion in 2023, it will double Chunfeng Road’s transport capacity and greatly improve southern Luohu’s traffic situation.
Meanwhile, construction on Xili High-speed Railway Station in Nanshan District will start this year, according to a Shenzhen Special Zone Daily report yesterday. The station, one of Guangdong’s key projects for 2022, will become a comprehensive transportation hub.
Work on several new-type infrastructures will also accelerate, including Guangming Science City, Shenzhen brain analysis and simulation facility, Shenzhen synthetic biology research center, and Shenzhen materials genome science installation platform.
The Huangmugang Comprehensive Transport Hub, a transfer hub for existing Line 7, Line 14, which is under construction, and future Line 24, will be put into use this year. Line 14, which starts from Gangxia North Station in Futian and ends at Shatian Station in Pingshan, will be put into operation before the end of 2022.
The city will also start construction on the airport-Pingshan section of Shenzhen Airport-Daya Bay Intercity Railway, Qianhai-Pingdi section and Dapeng spur line of Shenzhen-Huizhou Intercity Railway, and Qianhai-Huanggang Checkpoint section of Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen Intercity Railway.
The under-construction expansion project at the east operation area of Yantian Port will also be stepped up, which will raise the deep water port’s annual throughput capacity by 3 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). Moreover, Yantian will receive a 2.1-kilometer cross-sea tunnel to link up its eastern and central areas.
Work on Shenzhen Nature Museum in Pingshan District will also kick off this year, the Daily said.
