Shenzhen Bay Park
Shenzhen Bay Park is a seaside urban park in Shenzhen.
Shenzhen Bay Park is located in the southwest coast of Shenzhen, starting from Futian Mangrove Nature Reserve in the east and ending at the mouth of Houhai River in the west. It runs along the coast on the northern and western sides of the Shenzhen Bay, and is composed of 12 theme parks. The park has a total area of 128 hectares and is more than 20 kilometers long. It took eight years of planning, design and construction to complete.
The park is divided into two sections, namely the Shenzhen Bay Coastal Recreation Zone at its western side and the Mangrove Coastal Ecological Park at its eastern side.
The Mangrove Coastal Ecological Park opened to public in December 2000. The Shenzhen Bay Coastal Recreation Zone opened Aug. 6, 2011, days before the 2011 Summer Universiade that took place in Shenzhen.
The park has 170 species of plants under protection, including 16 species of mangrove plants belonging to nine families. At the same time, Shenzhen Bay serves as an international corridor for migratory birds. From October to March, hundreds of thousands of migratory birds arrive here to spend the winter, or enjoy a short rest, including 23 rare and endangered species such as black-faced spoonbills, curly-finned pelicans, and small green-legged sandpipers. When the migratory birds return, photography enthusiasts wait on the shore of Shenzhen Bay Park to take photos of them.
The park offers a panoramic view covering the Shenzhen skyline and New Territories, Hong Kong. The park is motor vehicle-free. Cycle paths and picnic spaces are featured within the park.
