A total of 38 performances competed in the modern dance and contemporary dance categories during the final dance competition of the 13th Lotus Award held at Shenzhen Grand Theater in Luohu District from Friday to Sunday.
The performances, consisting of 25 contemporary dance showcases and 13 modern dance works, delved into various aspects of Chinese storytelling, offering audiences glimpses into the narrative of the Yellow River, the artistry behind oil-paper umbrellas (a Chinese intangible cultural heritage), and the emotional journeys of individuals grappling with life’s challenges.
Following their final competition performances, the dancers now await the announcement of the results in the days to come. The selection process was rigorous, with these performances carefully chosen from 434 submissions originating from dance groups and institutions across China. These submissions represented various regions, including Beijing, Sichuan, Hubei, Henan, Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.
The Lotus Award, established in 1998, is a biennial event dedicated to promoting and acknowledging excellence in dance.
