Coastal scenic areas in Dapeng New Area and Dameisha Beach Park in Yantian District will be closed temporarily from 6 p.m. today as Typhoon Koinuas is heading towards the coastal areas of Guangdong Province.
Shenzhen’s weather authority issued a white alert for the typhoon at 8:35 a.m. today after the typhoon, the 14th of this year, made landfall on China’s Taiwan Island. It is expected to travel westward at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour today and tomorrow to gradually move closer to the coastal areas of eastern Guangdong, according to Shenzhen’s meteorological observatory. It is expected to weaken in intensity to a strong tropical storm and travel southwestward Oct. 7. It’s highly possible that the typhoon will pass over the east coast of Guangdong between Oct. 7 and 9 with weakened intensity or simply disappear. Another possibility is that it may make landfall on the east coast of Guangdong.
Shenzhen is expected to be hit by thundershowers or heavy rain between Oct. 7 and 9, with temperature drops around 4 degrees Celsius.
Shenzhen has a five-tiered color-coded alert system for typhoon, with the white alert as the least severe, followed by blue, yellow, orange and red.
