Pingshan Book Rooms

Pingshan Book Rooms are a series of community libraries and bookstores in Pingshan. Whether they are located in renovated historical sites, nature parks, or urban plazas, they offer a refreshing cultural experience for book lovers.

Jingui Book Room 坪山城市书房•金龟自然书房

The book room is located inside Jingui Village, a 300-year-old village that is adjacent to Tiantou Hill and Chi'ao Reservoir. The village has a well-preserved Hakka residence, with engraved and mottled patterns of flowers and birds, symbols of prosperity, as well as six forts remaining. The room is a popular place for holding activities for children to learn natural science, and it houses books and specimens.

Dawan Ancestral Residence Book Room 坪山城市书房•大万世居

The book room is located inside Dawan Ancestral Residence, China's largest and most completely preserved Hakka-style square compound built in 1791. Among its 2,000-book collection, many are rare books on Hakka culture. On weekends and festivals, family-friendly handicraft activities are regularly held at the book room.

Dawan Mingxin Book Room 坪山城市书房•大万明新学馆

Adjacent to Dawan Ancestral Residence, the book room used to be a school built in 1927. Now after renovation, the book room not only offers reading spaces and sell creative products, but also displays Hakka culture.

Wenwu Temple Book Room 坪山城市书房•文武帝宫

Wenwu Temple was built in the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). This 512-square-meter temple complex was originally used by Hakka people to venerate Confucius and Guan Yu. With the old architecture preserved, it has now been partly modified as a division of Pingshan Book Rooms for locals to read books and hold cultural events.

Nanzhong School Book Room 坪山城市书房•南中学堂

Built in 1931, Nanzhong School is in the first batch of protected historical buildings in Shenzhen and one of the immovable cultural relics in Pingshan. White walls, green tiles, cornices, and carved pillars demonstrate a distinctive Southeast Asian architectural style. Unlike other schools in those old days, Nanzhong School accepted girls and even married women as students. It also offered courses in nature, art, music, and physical education. In 2018, Pingshan District renovated it into a book room, and painting exhibitions are regularly held here.

Shuiyuan Ancestral Residence Book Room 坪山城市书房•水源世居

Shuiyuan Ancestral Residence was built in the early 20th century by a family surnamed Ye. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, it served as a transit stop for offering resting and supplies for Chinese guerrillas and patriotic people. After renovation, the residence is currently a memorial hall for displaying the history of the Dongjiang Column of Guangdong People's Guerrilla Force Against Japanese Aggression, a CPC history studying base and a book room.

Great Lawn Book Room 坪山城市书房•大草坪书房

A stunning orange book room with glass curtain walls nestled amid the lush greenery of Pingshan District Central Park has garnered significant attention for its seamless integration with the natural surroundings. This enchanting single-story space, named the Great Lawn Library, houses an impressive collection of 3,000 books. Readers not only can immerse themselves in books, but also indulge in aromatic coffee and select creative products.

For an elevated experience, one can ascend to the rooftop and marvel at the panoramic view of the park. Moreover, this dynamic book room is not limited to hosting regular open-air markets. In collaboration with Pingshan Theater, Pingshan Art Museum, and other cultural organizations nearby, an array of activities is being organized to further enhance the cultural experience for visitors.

Green Lawn Book Room 坪山城市书房•青青草儿童书房

Echoing Pingshan's natural ecological environment, the book room is located inside Pingshan Children's Park which makes full use of the original topography and retain the original mountain landscape and the plant diversity to its maximum extent. Housing over 8,000 books, the book room also displays plant and insect specimens.

Artisan Book Room 坪山城市书房•匠心书房

Artisan Book Room is located inside Pingshan Artisan Park, a comprehensive service park for highly skilled talents. Housing over 5,000 books covering topics including literature, education, and techniques for various matters, the book room stands as the district's effort to transmit culture in communities. Book-sharing events, conferences, lectures, and salons are regularly held at the book room.

Guanshui Book Room 坪山城市书房•观水书房

Located at Nanbu Water Purification Station, the book room is nature-themed and regularly holds nature observation events for local residents.

Innovation Plaza Book Room 坪山城市书房•创新广场

Located on the second floor of Innovation Plaza, the book room is actually the Reading Mi bookstore which sells books of various topics.
