The 330-ton “Kunpeng” shield machine cutterhead is lifted yesterday at the construction site of the Shenzhen-Dongguan Tunnel, a key project of the Shenzhen-Jiangmen Railway. It was hoisted down the well in the western section of the tunnel, which is 13 meters in diameter. A shield machine cutterhead is a part of a tunnel boring machine used in underground construction to excavate tunnels. The 116-kilometer railway, part of the high-speed railway network in China’s coastal areas, begins at the Xili station in Shenzhen, passing Dongguan, Guangzhou and Zhongshan, and ends at Jiangmen.
