The Shenzhen Mountaineering and Outdoor Sports Association (SMOA) has established a climbing base at the Yuzhu Peak International Mountaineering Town in Qinghai Province, officially opening August 8.

Located in Qumalai County, Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, the Yuzhu Peak International Mountaineering Town features China’s first prefabricated building constructed at an altitude of about 5,000 meters.

The project spans approximately 2.3 hectares and serves as a tourism complex that integrates sports competition, leisure and vacation activities, ecological experiences, and scientific research, while also meeting the ecological standards of the Sanjiangyuan (Source of Three Rivers) region and the needs of mountaineering athletes.

As a vital base for mountaineering activities, Yuzhu Peak International Mountaineering Town is equipped with comprehensive facilities and a professional service team.

It includes well-stocked supply warehouses containing high-quality food, drinking water, and energy supplies necessary for climbers, providing robust logistical support. Additionally, advanced medical assistance stations are staffed with experienced personnel and equipped with a complete range of first aid supplies to ensure timely and effective medical services for climbers in emergencies, significantly enhancing safety and the success rate of mountaineering.

In 2023, Yuzhu Peak welcomed 2,000 tourists, with the number of climbers growing each year. The establishment of the Yuzhu Peak International Mountaineering Town aims to capitalize on this unique resource advantage and develop a distinctive mountaineering sports brand.

Promoting outdoor sports, including mountaineering, along with improving residents’ participation and skill levels in the activity are key missions of the SMOA. Through a series of initiatives and its influence, SMOA has enabled an increasing number of Shenzhen residents to participate in mountaineering.
