Renowned scholar Zheng Yongnian was appointed as the dean of the School of Public Policy during the ceremony.

Xu Yangsheng, president of CUHK-Shenzhen, envisions the School of Public Policy as a vital bridge connecting the country and society, Hong Kong and the mainland, industry and policy, as well as China and the world. He hoped the school to break conventional thinking patterns and undertake a significant role in the economic development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), the country, and the world.

James J. Heckman, a Nobel laureate in Economics in 2000 from the University of Chicago, expressed in a video message that China's rapid development, particularly in emerging technologies in Shenzhen, offers a strong foundation for the School of Public Policy's development and research. He looks forward to the school focusing on new issues in Chinese public policy and contributing to the advancement of Chinese and global societies.

Zheng highlighted that the School of Public Policy, the youngest school at CUHK-Shenzhen, is guided by three principal missions: first, to construct a knowledge system based on Chinese path to modernization and international cutting-edge public policy tools to offer intellectual support for the social and economic development of the GBA, the country, and beyond; second, to cultivate talent with a global outlook and a comprehensive understanding of Chinese public policy and management concepts; third, to nurture global governance professionals for the international community, provide distinct wisdom and expertise to public policy research worldwide, and foster an open environment for educational exchange.

At present, the CUHK-Shenzhen’s School of Public Policy offers two master's programs with 95 enrolled students. In the future, the school aims to expand its master's and doctoral programs.
