Over 400 SZ scientists among world's best

At least 480 scientists and scholars from universities and research institutions in Shenzhen have been selected for the 7th edition of the Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientist Rankings 2024, a highly anticipated annual list that recognizes the world's most influential researchers.

The recently released list selects a total of 217,098 scientists worldwide and provides comprehensive information on the top 2% of scientists in various fields, allowing for in-depth analysis and research.

Among them, Shenzhen University has 233 individuals selected in the list, followed by SUSTech (170), the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (50), Shenzhen Technology University (14) and Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (8).

The above list compiled by media shows some of the domestic experts who have been selected.

Lu Hongzhou, president of the Third People's Hospital of Shenzhen, and four others from the hospital were selected. Lu Hongzhou, Zhang Zheng, Liu Yingxia and Yang Yang from the hospital had been selected for four consecutive years.

According to the list, Lu is ranked 12,130th in the world in microbiology. Zhang, in immunology, is ranked 47,608. Liu Yingxia in virology ranks 73,847, Luo Weiren in oncology ranks 187,352 and Yang Yang in virology ranks 239,178.

Eight scientists from MSU-BIT University were selected, a record that has helped the university expand its international academic influence. Shenzhen Technology University has 14 scientists on the list, covering 5 disciplines and 14 sub-disciplines.

The Top 2% Scientist Rankings list is published jointly by Stanford University and Elsevier and is based on comprehensive parameters such as citations, H-index, hm-index (co-author adjusted) and article citations. It covers nearly 7 million researchers worldwide in 22 fields and 174 sub-fields. The selection provides a metric for measuring the long-term research performance of scientists, reflecting their impact more objectively and accurately.
