Craft wonders at Shenzhen Folk Art Exhibition

At the 8th Shenzhen Folk Art Exhibition, held at the Ancient Art Division of the Shenzhen Museum, visitors can enjoy more than 170 exquisite pieces crafted by local folk artists. The exhibition showcases a diverse array of folk art forms including shadow puppets, ceramics, cloth and cotton sculptures, paper cutting, wood carving, walnut carving, jade carving, leather carving, iron painting, and embroidery.

The exhibits feature works by accomplished artists who have been recipients of national, provincial, and municipal folk art awards, craft art masters, and inheritors of intangible cultural heritage. Their creations reflect exceptional skill and draw inspiration from historical tales, folklore, mythological legends, poetry, traditional calligraphy, and paintings, highlighting distinct regional cultural characteristics. Additionally, young artists have blended modern Chinese elements with contemporary expressions, presenting a dynamic fusion of tradition and international influences.

The diverse folk artistry shown at the exhibition encapsulates the essence of Chinese culture and underscores the innovative development of folk arts in Shenzhen. During the Oct. 29 opening, traditional instrumental performances enriched the ambiance of the exhibition hall, and handicraft booths in the lobby offered visitors a closer look at intangible cultural heritage and its timeless charm. 

A wood-carving work crafted by Qin Xiansheng is on display. The work is inspired by Giuseppe Castiglione's 18th-century painting "One Hundred Horses."
