Pearls, known for their glistening luster and range of colors, are cherished by many as symbols of beauty, purity, and luxury. At a pearl-themed cultural exchange event held in Shuibei, Luohu District, on Saturday, residents learned about this beloved gemstone and deepened their understanding through hands-on activities like extracting pearls from clams and making jewelry.

As part of Cuizhu Subdistrict’s initiative to build an international block fostering cultural exchanges, the bilingual event attracted both Chinese residents and residents from countries including Russia, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Ukraine.

The event began with a mini lecture, where an instructor explained how pearls are formed, the different types of pearls, and how to pair pearl jewelry with various outfits.

Following the lecture, each participant or family received a clam to open. Based on the size and color of the pearls they found, they then selected accessories -- such as necklaces, rings, or brooches -- to create their own unique jewelry piece.

It was Ukrainian participant Inna's first time opening a clam to find a pearl.“The whole process was both novel and fun. Such events not only give us a deeper understanding of pearls but also allow us to experience the wonderful fusion between different cultures,” she shared, adding that she looks forward to similar events in the future.

Hafsa, another participant from Pakistan, also spoke highly of the event.“Today’s class was truly wonderful. The teacher opened a new door to the world of jewelry with a vivid teaching method that was full of creativity and inspiration.”

The event was guided by the Luohu District Foreign Affairs Bureau, hosted by the Cuizhu Subdistrict Office and the Shuibei Community Service Center, and organized by the Southwind Social Work Service Center.
