New Town Plaza celebrates 40th anniversary with fireworks & fun

New Town Plaza, a beloved shopping mall in Sha Tin, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, is marking its 40th anniversary with a two-month-long celebration filled with festive activities and a grand fireworks display. To thank the community for its unwavering support, the mall is hosting a series of events culminating in the "Winter Sparkle Fireworks Festival" on the night of Nov. 16.

The fireworks display will begin at 8:30 p.m., featuring 2,024 dazzling pyrotechnics lighting up the night sky over Sha Tin for the first time. Simultaneously, the Christmas lights will be illuminated in sync with festive music, adding to the magic of the evening. Residents and tourists are invited to enjoy the show from the mall's outdoor area or other nearby open spaces.

The festivities will kick off at noon Nov. 16, featuring all-day live busking performance, face painting, magic shows, and more. There will be a giveaway of 40th anniversary-themed balloons, candy floss and popcorn, along with various creative workshops provided by tenants. 

To celebrate with shoppers, over 100 stores will offer more than 300 shopping discounts of up to 80% for the anniversary, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the mall.

To further enhance the festive atmosphere, New Town Plaza is transforming into a winter wonderland with a 13-meter-tall Christmas tree and a 2,000-square-foot (185.5-square-meter) indoor ice skating rink.
