Intl. musical theater stars gather for a gala concert in SZ

The Bay Opera of Shenzhen in Bao’an District will transform into a heaven for musical theater enthusiasts, as it will host the “London West End and Broadway Musical Stars Gala” concert.

Featuring 26 classic hits, the 90-minute audiovisual extravaganza promises to take audiences on a journey from the emotional monologues of “Dear Evan Hansen” to the epic landscapes of “The Lion King,” offering a transcendent unforgettable experience through time and space.

The concert will bring together leading figures from the global musical theater scene, interpreting timeless classics in diverse styles.

Among the stars is Aimie Atkinson, nominated for an Olivier Award for her role as Katherine Howard in “Six.” She will perform the powerful piece “Heart of Stone,” showcasing the resilience and strength of Tudor women, followed by her personal single “Monster,” which blends pop and musical theater styles, demonstrating her cross-genre prowess.

Ben Crawford, recognized for his portrayal of the Phantom in the Broadway version of “The Phantom of the Opera,” will deliver a thunderous rendition of “The Music of the Night,” recreating the iconic chandelier scene. He will also showcase his comedic talent with a playful rendition of the theme song from “Shrek.”

Joining Crawford is Meghan Picerno, who has earned acclaim for her portrayal of Christine Daaé in the Broadway production. She will perform a duet with Crawford on “The Phantom of the Opera,” capturing the poignant struggle between the Phantom and Christine. Picerno will also enchant the audience with her solo of “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again,” delivering an operatic performance that will ignite the crowd.

The concert will feature a multi-part symphonic presentation of “One Day More” from “Les Misérables,” intertwining revolutionary fervor and personal destiny in a breathtaking display. The atmosphere will be further elevated with a dreamlike rendition of “All I Ask of You” from “The Phantom of the Opera.”

The concert will also take audiences into a magical realm with powerful performances of “Shadowland” from “The Lion King” and “Speechless” from “Aladdin,” featuring stunning visuals and vibrant rhythms.
