China’s domestically built C919 aircraft began serving passengers on the Shenzhen-Shanghai route yesterday. The plane, carrying 140 passengers, departed from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport at 9:28 a.m. and arrived at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport at 11:31 a.m. yesterday. Both the inaugural outbound and return flights were fully booked on the day. Starting today, the C919 will operate a daily round-trip flight between the two cities. As China’s first homegrown mainline passenger aircraft, the twin-engine jet completed its maiden commercial voyage with China Eastern Airlines in May 2023.
