Metro Line 5 extension

The western extension of Metro Line 5 will commence operations by the end of this year, according to Shenzhen Metro.

Running east–west along Shennan East Road, the 2.88-km extension starts at Huangbeiling Station and ends at Grand Theater Station. At Grand Theater Station, passengers will be able to transfer to lines 1 and 2.

Spanning 47 km from Chiwan to Huangbeiling, Line 5 ranks among the busiest routes in Shenzhen’s Metro network, averaging 1.12 million journeys a day. On Dec. 31, 2024, it made headlines by smashing that record, carrying an unprecedented 1.45 million passengers in a single day.
