On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, which falls on today, Grupo R Multimedio, a leading media organization in Uruguay, has published a feature highlighting Shenzhen’s transformation into a core engine of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.

Titled "Shenzhen: Innovation, Nature, and Culture in the Youngest City in China," the report originated from a three-day visit to Shenzhen by a delegation of journalists from nine countries across Asia, Africa, and South America.

During the trip, the delegation toured technology leaders including BYD and Leju Robotics, gaining firsthand insight into the city’s innovation ecosystem and multicultural character.

They also visited Shenzhen News Group and met with the team behind Shenzhen Daily and its nine-language international information portal EyeShenzhen.

Valeria Machado Martinez of La República, under the Grupo R Multimedio, contributed an in-depth piece, “Shenzhen Daily: The Engine Behind Building the Global Image of an Innovative City,” examining how Shenzhen Daily has helped shape the city’s international image.

As China’s first local daily English-language newspaper and the only English-language newspaper on the southern Chinese mainland, the paper’s value, the story argues, stems from building a “partner ecosystem” and implementing a layered international communications strategy that amplifies Shenzhen’s global voice.

Central to that effort is EyeShenzhen. Launched in May 2023 as Shenzhen’s official, comprehensive information portal, the multilingual site provides practical, authoritative content and interactive services that have quickly made it a go-to resource for expats and international visitors seeking to understand and integrate into city life.

Through EyeShenzhen, Shenzhen Daily has also focused on cultivating international communications talent. Initiatives such as the Shenzhen Global Communication Ambassador Program and the Generation Z Shenzhen University International Communication Club (Z10 Club) recruit and empower participants to produce and share content about Shenzhen on overseas social platforms.

Over the past year, these programs have organized multiple activities to encourage cross-border content creation and engagement.

Beyond talent cultivation, Shenzhen Daily is building long-term partnerships with influencers, bloggers, overseas mainstream media, industry organizations, international institutions, and universities at home and abroad. These collaborations form a synergistic communications network that extends the city’s reach and influence.

Interviewees praised EyeShenzhen’s multilingual approach. Spanish teacher Edcia Alejandra Alcocer and Venezuelan blogger Rafael Saavedra said native-language services make information access more convenient and welcoming, lowering barriers for newcomers.

The portal delivers reliable, up-to-date, and practical guidance that is both high-quality and easy to use. Brazilian Keyth Cristina described the Portuguese version as both engaging and highly practical, citing its useful guidance on visas, hospitals, and schools.
