The Shenzhen Microdrama Industry Association signs an agreement with Shenzhen Film Studio during the launch ceremony of the association in Pingshan District on Jan. 17.
The Shenzhen Microdrama Industry Association was established in Pingshan District on Jan. 17, marking a new phase of resource integration, full-chain collaboration, high-quality content creation, and global expansion for the city’s microdrama industry.
By integrating digital technology and cultural creativity, microdramas are positioned not only as a trending segment in film and TV but also as a key path for cultivating new productive forces in the cultural sector.
The Shenzhen Microdrama Industry Association brings together leading players across the industry. Shenzhen Media Group, Tencent, and Shenzhen Crazy Maple Studio (operator of the ReelShort microdrama platform) were named honorary president units, while Shenzhen DataEye (operator of the Juchacha microdrama platform) serves as the association’s president unit. Several companies, including Mansen (Shenzhen) Culture Media Co., Ltd. and China Wit Media Co., Ltd., serve as vice president units.
Nearly 100 member companies have joined, spanning IP holders, content producers, overseas platforms, technology providers, and traffic/operations specialists.
At the launch meeting, six major strategic partnerships were signed.
The association will collaborate with Shenzhen Film Studio to optimize production resources. Using the digital platform “ikaipai,” the partners will integrate more than 1,000 filming locations, hundreds of equipment suppliers, and relevant government resources to provide one-stop services (locations, approvals, and procedural support), easing approval complexity and reducing costs for production teams.
Shenzhen DataEye and Toposcend Capital will jointly launch a fund to support filming base construction, project incubation, and technology R&D, creating more stable financing channels for enterprises going global and lowering operational risks.
The association also signed agreements on industrial cooperation and resource synergy with China Wit Media Co., Ltd. and the Organizing Committee of Art Hong Kong Expo to further refine the industry ecosystem.
In partnership with the Hetao International Mediation Center, Shenzhen DataEye will provide full-chain legal services covering IP disputes, compliance consultation, and legal training to protect companies’ overseas rights and interests.
In collaboration with the Shenzhen Microdrama Industry Association, Shenzhen Pingshan International Movie City and Zhiheng Industrial Park will renovate and upgrade their production bases to meet overseas market needs by optimizing shooting sets, upgrading technical facilities, and strengthening talent support.
The association has also established ties with companies including Shenshuang Culture Technology, Guangzhou Landi Film & Television, and Shenzhen Xinmei Film.
“We chose Pingshan to launch the association because of its strong film and television industry,” said Xu Qingyang, deputy secretary-general of the Shenzhen Microdrama Industry Association. “Pingshan not only offers rich and diverse shooting locations, but also comprehensive production support and full-chain resources. As the industrial ecosystem improves, microdramas produced in Pingshan will grow steadily.”
Pingshan hosts South China’s leading 3,000-square-meter virtual digital photography studio and a 12,000-square-meter international-standard film studio, forming a complete production chain and strong infrastructure.
Located at the center of the Shenzhen-Dongguan-Huizhou region, Pingshan is integrated into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area’s one-hour commuting network — 55 minutes to Guangzhou, 1 hour to Hong Kong West Kowloon, and 3 hours to Xiamen — well suited to the short, fast, and flexible production model of microdramas.
Local settings such as Maluan Mountain, Hakka walled houses, modern urban areas, and tech parks allow teams to shoot a wide range of historical and contemporary scenes without long-distance travel, significantly cutting production costs.
Pingshan is accelerating construction of the 5,000-square-meter Shenshuang Microdrama Base within Shenzhen Pingshan International Movie City and preparing 200,000 square meters of commercial space in ZQ Future City.
Pingshan will continue to optimize industrial policies, improve full-chain services, and support the association as a bridge for government-enterprise cooperation. The district aims to help Shenzhen build a national-level microdrama base for overseas expansion and drive the industry toward high-quality development.
