Calling all local and international residents in Shenzhen: two more Yingge Dance performances will be staged in Luohu’s Sungang Subdistrict this Saturday.
The extra shows were scheduled after a flood of social media requests for encores. A recent Yingge performance at the “Luohu Live · Sungang Spring Market” event at Yunjie Plaza in Sungang Subdistrict drew sustained cheers and applause, with many audience members posting “Too thrilling! I didn’t get enough!” and “Please add another show! I want to watch Yingge Dance again!” on social media.

Event organizers answered the call: the Yingge Dance returns for two performances at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., back-to-back for an extended evening of entertainment. After the second set, a high-energy live band will take the stage, delivering a double dose of intangible cultural heritage and contemporary music to keep the weekend buzzing.
Yingge Dance, a centuries-old Lingnan folk tradition, is more than a spectacle: it is a New Year ritual full of blessings and collective spirit. The painted faces often symbolize loyalty and righteousness, evoking safety and good fortune, while the dancers’ coordinated movements and drumbeats celebrate teamwork and communal resolve. Every stick strike and drum roll expresses a wish for reunion and harmony.

Performers in full-face paint and vibrant costumes bring the centuries-old Yingge Dance to life during a lively outdoor performance in Luohu’s Sungang Subdistrict.
“Luohu Live · Sungang Spring Market” serves as a micro-window for cultural exchange. The market brings together Spring Festival traditions and modern trends: folk performances, Hanfu and traditional dress, campus talent shows, robot contests, live bands and a vibrant cultural market where old and new meet.
