【Catch Phrase】下猛药(xià měng yào)

Meaning:

Literally meaning to "prescribe a strong medicine" for a serious disease, this term is often used as a metaphor for adopting extreme measures to solve a nagging problem or a widespread social issue.

Example

A: 印度原有的两种纸钞上周三作废,周四起正式发行新钞。由于时间太短加上准备不足,很多民众需要排队四小时才能拿到新钞。

Yìndù yuányǒu de liǎngzhǒng zhǐchāo shàng zhōusān zuòfèi, zhōusì qǐ zhèngshì fāxíng xīnchāo。Yóuyú shíjiān tài duān jiāshàng zhǔnbèi bùzú, hěnduō mínzhòng xūyào páiduì sì xiǎoshí cáinéng nádào xīnchāo。

India announced that its former two banknotes were annuled last Wednesday and new banknotes were issued Thursday. Allowing too short a time for the change and inadequately prepared, they had people waiting four hours in lines before getting new banknotes.
