Meaning:
Literally meaning to “wash the floor,” this term has been used metaphorically to mean “dealing with the aftermath of their own or other people’s action (especially, wrongdoing).” The usage became popular after it was used in the opening scene of “Kung Fu Hustle,” a 2004 martial arts action comedy film directed by Stephen Chow, who also starred as the lead. In that scene, the floor was covered in blood after the head of a gang had gone on a killing spree. The man was heard calling out, “Cops, come quickly to wash the floor” before he left in ease.
Example:
A: 你觉得这支股票怎么样？我看到有知名券商发研报推荐。
Nǐ juédé zhè zhī gǔpiào zěnmeyàng？ Wǒ kàndào yǒu zhīmíng quànshāng fā yánbào tuījiàn。
What do you think of this stock? I read a research report by staffers with a renowned broker recommending it.
B: 今年已经涨了很多，说不定是为出货洗地，你还是谨慎一点好。
Jīnnián yǐjīng zhǎng le hěnduō, shuōbùdìng shì wèi chūhuò xǐdì, nǐ háishì jǐnshèn yīdiǎn hǎo。
This stock has seen its price soaring this year. It’s possible that the broker is selling the shares they bought previously and covering up their true intentions. You’d better be cautious.
