【Catch Phrase】厌世颜(yàn shì yán)

Writer:   | Editor: 杨梅  | From:  | Updated: 2017-01-05

Meaning:

“厌世” means “misanthropy,” and “颜” means “face.” This term, often used by netizens, refers to the cynical look often seen on the face of misanthropes. It’s frequently used to describe model and actress Mizuhara Kiko, who seldom smiles in her magazine shots. Appearing bored and not interested in anything, those who have this “face of misanthrope” are sometimes believed to be uniquely beautiful.

Example:

A: 你见过小李的女朋友吗?

Nǐ jiànguò xiǎolǐ de nǚpéngyǒu ma?

Have you met Xiao Li’s girlfriend?

B: 见过,年纪轻轻却很厌世颜。

Jiànguò, niánjì qīngqīng què hěn yànshìyán。

Yeah, I have. She’s quite young but has got the face of a misanthrope.

A: 是的,颓废的那种美。

Shì de, tuífèi de nàzhǒng měi。

True. She’s sickly beautiful.
