As Chinese New Year approaches, people in Shenzhen are preparing to spend the most important holiday of the year with families and friends back home. As a tradition, it’s good to bring some specialties back for friends. But some people may doubt whether there are any specialties in Shenzhen since it is a city of migrants.
But I can assure you that Shenzhen does have its own specialties and they are delicious! Here are some recommendations.
Shajing Oysters
People usually eat fresh oysters, but dried ones come highly recommended when you take them with you on a long journey. But don’t worry, they taste as good as fresh oysters.

Nan’ao dried abalone
When it comes to abalone, those produced in Luju, Nan’ao are some of the most popular as Nan’ao is the largest abalone farming base in China.

Nanshan dried Lychee
Thanks to Shenzhen’s favorable climate for lychee farming, Nanshan lychees are tender and juicy. The dried ones are very sweet and suitable for delivery.

Xixiang greasyback shrimps
Located in brackish waters, Xixiang produces the best greasyback shrimps. As small as they are, the shrimps are tender and fresh, rich in protein and nutritious.

Songgang preserved duck
Songgang county has a long tradition of large-scale duck farming. Every year around the solar terms of Beginning of Winter, the ducks are fed with brown rice, so the ducks become nice and plump.

Shiyan sand pear
Sand pears can clear away heat and toxic materials and taste better when boiled in water. They are available in most of fruit stores.

Pingshan Jingui tangerine
With a long history of more than 100 years, Pingshan Jingui Tangerines are popular for their large size, bright skin and sweetness. They can quench thirst and are good for digestion.

Guangming suckling pigeon
Prepared with a secret recipe and with a sophisticated method, Guangming suckling pigeons are tender, fresh and sweet.

Dapeng Yunwu tea
Grown in the mountains at an elevation of 800 meters in Dapeng, Yunwu tea is famous for its rich aroma, clearness and sweetness. It can cleanse your stomach after a big feast, so it is especially appropriate during the holiday season.

Gongming roasted goose
Roasted Goose in Gongming Town (Bao'an District) is known for its rich color and succulent taste. The crispy skin is bright gold on the outside, and the meat is very tender; a bit fatty but not greasy.
