【Catch Phrase】信息零食(xìnxī língshí)

Writer:   | Editor: Stephanie Yang  | From:  | Updated: 2017-02-27

Meaning:

“信息” means “information” and “零食” means “to snack.” It can be translated as “infosnacking,” which describes time spent on the computer at work doing things that aren’t work-related. Editors at Webster’s New World College Dictionary define infosnacking as those stolen moments at work at which we sneak time to handle personal e-mail, Google sports scores, or shop online.

Example:

A: 苏珊昨天上班时网购,被领导发现挨批评了。

Sūshān zuótiān shàngbān shí wǎnggòu, bèi lǐngdǎo fāxiàn āi pīpíng le。

Susan was criticized by her boss yesterday when she was discovered shopping online at work.

B: 这可不太好,不过上班时间享用信息零食对办公室一族也是普遍现象。

Zhè kě bùtàihǎo, bùguò shàngbān shíjiān xiǎngyòng xìnxī língshí duì bàngōngshì yīzú yě shì pǔbiàn xiànxiàng。

That was terrible, but infosnacking at work is now quite common for office employees.
