Writer:   | Editor: Stephanie Yang  | From:  | Updated: 2017-06-08

Meaning:

“微” is “micro,” and “工作” means “job.” A micro job is a temporary, task-type job of all types, often booked through the Internet. Work may include online or in-person jobs, such as writing blogs, virtual assistant, handyman, nanny, website design, dog boarding or errands, etc. The income varies depending on the job and the fee charged by the micro jobs website. Micro job workers are independent contractors and are legally responsible for their actions. The Internet changed how people find jobs. Websites such as fiverr.com have made it possible for people to find virtual jobs both in their current city and worldwide.

Example:

A: 你最近忙吗?

Nǐ zuìjìn máng ma?

Have you been busy lately?

B: 不太忙。

Bù tài máng。

Not really.

A: 有份辅导高中生数学的微工作你愿意做吗?

Yǒu fèn fǔdǎo gāozhōngshēng shùxué de wēigōngzuò nǐ yuànyì zuò ma?

There’s a micro job posting for tutoring a high schooler math available, will you take it?
