Catch Phrase| 左先生 右先生 (zuǒxiānshēng yòuxiānshēng )

Writer:   | Editor: Stephanie Yang  | From:  | Updated: 2017-10-10

Meaning:

“左” means “left,” and “右” means “right.” “先生” is “mister.” Literally translated as “Mr. Left” and “Mr. Right,” the terms were coined by a Chinese netizen in his essay “Who really cares for you?” that went viral online. In the essay, Mr. Left is always cheering you up and saying sweet things to you, but Mr. Right talks with his deeds and helps you solve all kinds of problems. The conclusion is “you can date Mr. Left but it’s definitely wise to marry Mr. Right.”

Example:

A: 小李和小林我都很喜欢,我该嫁给谁呢?

Xiǎolǐ hé xiǎolín wǒ dōu hěn xǐhuān, wǒ gāi jià gěi shuí ne?

I like both Xiao Lin and Xiao Li. Who should I marry?

B: 当然是更能以实际行动关心你的右先生。

Dāngrán shì gèng néng yǐ shíjì xíngdòng guānxīn nǐ de yòuxiānshēng 。

You’d better marry “Mr. Right” who cares for you with action.
