Please Note

Maker Faire Shenzhen will open at Shenzhen Polytechnic tomorrow, providing exhibitions, speeches and workshops through Sunday.

More than 200 makers from all over the world will exhibit their creative projects showcasing the techno-DIY spirit. The projects employ various rising technologies including 3-D printing, drones, biohacking, interactive arts, mechanics and so on.

There will be two days of compelling seminars and panels at the Maker Faire Forum, presented by visionary leaders, community builders and hobbyist makers who will share their experiences, pushing the maker movement forward.

Events are the must-see sessions. Makers from different backgrounds will give making-related performances. The line-up includes Maker Magician, Water Graffiti and Eight-legged Robot Mount, to name a few.

Workshops will provide hands-on skill-building sessions that encourage kid and adults alike to get in the spirit of making.

Exhibition highlights

• Mario the Magician

New York’s Mario the Magician will present a live comedic performance of magic and slapstick comedy, empowered by hidden modern technology and robotics that are obscured from the audience’s sight at the fair’s central stage. His repertoire exclusively features hand-made items, often from salvaged materials, and his message is to encourage children to make, not buy. The performance is a high-energy spectacle of vaudeville and humor, with fully-automated, interactive sidekicks.

• Waterlight Graffiti

Waterlight Graffiti is a project created by Antonin Fourneau that involves the use of thousands of LEDs that light up when touched by water. When you touch the frame of an LED, water creates an electrical bridge bringing the power required to light up the LED embedded under the surface. The wetter it is, the brighter it gets.

• Nerdy Derby

Nerdy Derby Inc. provides students with hands-on learning activities that are creative and engaging. At the fair, children are invited to join a toy car race.
