It’s a known fact that roughly 71 percent of Earth's surface is covered by water, most of it in the oceans. However, every year, eight million tons of plastic are dumped into our water supply, causing the problem of plastic pollution to grow exponentially.
We can solve this problem by education and engaging more people in a conversation about rethinking plastic.
To raise people’s awareness of marine and environmental conservation on a global level, Hilton Shenzhen Futian will be hosting an environmental education event Saturday, Nov.11, screening a documentary film "A Plastic Ocean" directed by Craig Leeson to boost the awareness of all people.
"A Plastic Ocean"
The film begins when journalist Craig Leeson, searching for the elusive blue whale, discovers plastic waste in what should be pristine seas. In this adventure documentary, Craig teams up with free diver Tanya Streeter and an international team of scientists and researchers, and they travel to twenty locations around the world over the course of four years to explore the fragile state of our oceans, uncover alarming truths about plastic pollution, and reveal working solutions that can be put into immediate effect.
After watching the film, the audience will have a chance to meet and talk with the film’s producer Jo Ruxton who will share behind-the-scenes stories about the filming and production phases.

While watching, the audience can treat themselves to light snacks and refreshments, which will be priced at 188 yuan per person.

On Sunday, the hotel will continue educating people on plastic disposal and waste by encouraging children and their parents to join a plastic workshop and craft contest, up-cycling waste into something valuable. Participants are invited to enjoy a delicious lunch buffet at the hotel for 228 yuan per person. The price is subject to 15 percent surcharge.
