China should continue to upgrade the country's toilets as part of its "toilet revolution" aimed at developing domestic tourism and improving people's quality of life, President Xi Jinping said.
Xi pointed out that toilet problem is not a small problem, it is an important part of urban and rural civilization.Scenic spots, cities and villages should pay attention to the problem and make it as one of the concrete work of rural revitalization strategy so as to improve people's living quality.
"Toilet Revolution" is a nationwide campaign conducted by China National Tourism Administration since 2015, aiming to resolve the problem of insufficient number of tourist restrooms, unhygienic conditions and lack of management within three years.
By the end of October this year, China had installed or upgraded 68,000 toilets at tourist destinations, 19.3 percent more than the target number.
中共中央总书记、国家主席、中央军委主席习近平近日就旅游系统推进“厕所革命”工作取得的成效作出重要指示。习近平称，我国要继续推进“厕所革命”，发展国内旅游业，提升群众生活品质。
习近平指出，厕所问题不是小事情，是城乡文明建设的重要方面。不但景区、城市要抓，农村也要抓，要把这项工作作为乡村振兴战略的一项具体工作来推进，努力补齐这块影响群众生活品质的短板。
“厕所革命”是国家旅游局自2015年起在全国范围内开展的旅游厕所建设和管理行动，旨在用三年时间解决旅游厕所的数量过少、卫生质量低劣以及管理缺位问题。
行动启动以来，“厕所革命”取得明显成效。
截至今年10月底，全国共新改建旅游厕所6.8万座，超过目标任务的19.3%。
