Pianist Chantal Largier and Chinese actress Guo Qinxiuzhi will present “Love in Vienna,” a piano recital with a monologue to depict the life story of German musician Beethoven and his relationship with Austrian musician Therese Malfatti.

Malfatti was a close friend of Beethoven and is best known as one of the supposed dedicatees of Beethoven’s famous bagatelle “For Elise.”

The program will include Beethoven’s “For Elise,” “Sonata for Piano in E Major,” “Sonata for Piano in F-sharp Minor,” Mozart’s “Sonata for Piano in C Minor,” Schubert’s “Impromptu in E-flat Major,” “Impromptu in G-flat Major” and Brahms’ “Rhapsody in B Minor.”

Chantal Largier

Largier was born and grew up in Zurich, Switzerland, and later moved to Japan with her parents. She was a prize-winner at the 14th Youth Music Harmony Competition in Tokyo. In 2002, she started her degree studies at the Music Academy in Basel, and was awarded her piano teaching diploma in 2008 and BA in music and movement. In 2013 she completed her MA in music performance at the Zurich University of the Arts.

With her experience as a soloist and chamber musician, Largier commands a broad repertoire that extends from the works of the Baroque into contemporary pieces. In 2012-2013 she collaborated with the Ensemble of the Zurich University of Arts on the project “Arc-en-Ciel,” which explores and performs contemporary music of a high caliber.

She was taught by well-known pianists like Elisso Virsaladze, Friedemann Rieger, Akiko Ebi, Paul Coker and Marc Pantillion. She has given many solo and chamber music concerts throughout China.
