Leong is a Malaysian singer. Having sold more than 18 million records, she achieved popularity and success in China, Singapore and Malaysia.

S.H.E is a Taiwanese girl group whose members are Selina Jen, Hebe Tien and Ella Chen. Pg.lost

SZ New Year Midi Festival

The Midi Music Festival is among China’s largest rock music festivals and is hosted by the Beijing Midi School of Music. Since its inauguration in 1997, it has been held each year in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. The festival regularly appoints environmental themes as their slogan, raising awareness for animals threatened with extinction and PM2.5 for their 2012 festivals. With “Say ‘No’ to Plastic To-go Boxes” as this year’s theme, the festival calls for boycotting plastic takeaway boxes at the event.

Highlighted bands include Swedish band Pg.lost and Chinese band Second Hand Rose. Pg.lost’s sound is throbbing with great melancholy, but there is also a healthy dose of dirty, crushing rock in it, something you will be hard-pressed to find in the ever-growing mass of post-rock pabulum.

Second Hand Rose is known for its bold combination of traditional Chinese instruments with solid rock fundamentals. The influence of traditional Chinese folk music can be clearly felt in the singing of lead singer Liang Long, as well as the usage of traditional Chinese instruments in both their recordings and live performances. Their debut album, “Second Hand Rose Band,” was released in 2004 to critical acclaim in China.
