Shi Yimei
Hisaishi was a student of legendary anime composer Takeo Watanabe. He is known for over 100 film scores and solo albums dating back to 1981. His music has been known to explore and incorporate different genres, including minimalist, experimental electronic and classical elements. His film scores possess a stylistically distinct sound and have become popular at children’s concerts in China in recent years.
He has been associated with animator Hayao Miyazaki since 1984, having composed scores for all of his films including “Howl’s Moving Castle,” “Porco Rosso,” “Princess Mononoke,” “Kiki’s Delivery Service” and “Spirited Away.” He is also recognized for the soundtracks he has provided for film director Takeshi Kitano, such as “Summer” and “Kids Return.”
