Futian District Library will host riddle-solving events March 2 at five community outlets to mark the Lantern Festival, the final day of the traditional Chinese New Year, which is celebrated on the 15th day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar. Visitors who solve the riddles can claim free prizes.
Residents can also solve some riddles on Futian District Library’s WeChat account “szftlib” to win prizes.
During the Lantern Festival, Chinese people go out at night, carrying paper lanterns that are inscribed with riddles to be solved. In ancient times, the lanterns were fairly simple, and only the emperor and noblemen had large ornate ones. Today, lanterns are embellished with many complex designs. For example, lanterns can now be made in the shapes of animals. Releasing the lanterns symbolizes letting go of the past and welcoming the new for many people. Moreover, the lanterns are almost always red, which symbolizes good fortune.
Eaten during the Lantern Festival, tangyuan is a glutinous rice ball typically filled with sweet red bean paste, sesame paste, or peanut butter. Chinese people believe the round shape of the balls and the bowls in which they are served symbolize family unity, and that eating tangyuan will bring the family happiness and good luck in the new year.
An activity unique to this festival is solving lantern riddles. These often contain messages of good fortune, family reunion, abundant harvest, prosperity and love.

福田区图书馆在活动现场设置猜灯谜会场，读者从悬挂的谜语中摘取猜中的谜面（限两条），可利用福田区图书馆书刊资料查找谜底。猜出后到兑奖台核对正误并兑奖。凡是猜对灯谜的读者，均可根据设置的奖项获得相应奖品，同时签名领奖。未猜中回收谜题供其他读者再猜。

活动规则
欢迎读者参加元宵灯谜游戏，但请遵守游戏规则：
1. 线上猜谜获奖读者请凭短信息通知直接到兑奖台领取奖品；
2. 请保持秩序，服从指挥，遵守规则，文明游戏；
3. 人数过多时，各区域均会控制入场人数；
4. 会场摘取谜面每人每次限两条，未猜中勿取；
5. 会场参与者猜中后到兑奖台核对谜底，正确则凭谜面至领奖处签名领奖，错误则收回谜题供其他读者再猜，每人每次最多限兑2条；
6. 奖品丰富，是随机送给大家的小惊喜，已兑换的奖品不予退换，兑完即止。读者可根据各自的喜好自行相互调换。
