Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A)
Dr. Tristram Hunt, director of the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London, will give a speech titled “V&A: A Museum for the Future” in Shenzhen.
Hunt has been director of the V&A since February 2017. Formerly the U.K. Member of Parliament for Stoke-on-Trent Central, he served as the Labour Party’s Shadow Secretary of State for Education. Between 2001 and 2010, Tristram combined his post as senior lecturer in history at Queen Mary University of London, with work as a history broadcaster, presenting a range of radio and television programs for the BBC and Channel 4. He is the author of several books, most recently “Ten Cities That Made an Empire” published in 2014.
During this talk, he will explore the V&A’s global story, from its foundations in the 1851 Great Exhibition, the first international exhibition of design and manufacturing, to the new V&A Gallery at Design Society in Shenzhen. The V&A’s founding commitment to design, education and industry frames these global conversations, and continues to define the V&A’s local, national and international purpose today. Hunt will consider how the V&A’s educational mission is promoting the design world to the widest possible audience.
