Reproductions of magnificent ancient Chinese paintings and calligraphic works produced by Nigensha Publishing Company from Japan are on display.

Nigensha’s reproductions are a major contribution to closing the gap between the original works and their potential viewers, making them accessible to the wider public. The texture of the original paper or silk is miraculously conveyed, with all the subtlety of color and range of ink tone. Before reproduction, color variations and degrees of intensity were most carefully checked, and with Nigensha’s superb technique, viewers will be getting an experience almost as satisfying as looking at the originals themselves.

Nigensha has been particularly successful in catching the nuances of ink values, the quality of brushwork itself, which lies at the heart of an understanding of Chinese painting and calligraphy.

The exhibited reproduced paintings and works of calligraphy include many of the finest surviving works of ancient masters, such as Wang Xizhi (303-361), Fan Kuan (950-1032) and Guo Xi (1000-1090).
