SHENZHEN ranked first in digital reading for 2017 among Chinese cities, according to a report released for World Book Day yesterday.
According to the report, an average Shenzhen resident read 12.42 digital books last year.
The report, covering research on reading, digital reading, Shenzhen’s Readers Month and the development of the city’s libraries. The ranking was released at China Digital Reading Conference.
During World Book Day, 290 reading activities were launched at libraries throughout the city in an effort to promote reading.
A series of special displays that represent the 40 years of development that has taken place since the start of China’s reform and opening up will be held at Shenzhen Library.
The special displays include a selection of 40 books from 40 years that reflect China’s reform and opening up and a story collection themed “I and Shenzhen — Speak Your Story” and classic poetry recitation.
By the end of 2017 the city had 638 libraries and 284 book dispensers distributing on streets and in public areas.
World Book Day is a yearly event on April 23 designated by UNESCO.
