What do you value the most about the person sitting opposite you on a blind date? A survey recently conducted by Zhenai.com showed that single people in Shenzhen tend to value income level the most on their blind dates, the Shenzhen Evening News reported.
The survey collected 6,131 samples of single people’s behavior and opinions on their blind dates nationwide and found that compared to people from other cities, the singles in Shenzhen might be more “realistic,” as they give “income level” more weight when deciding whether to continue dating someone, while people from Guangzhou tend to focus more on their blind date’s family background.
In Beijing, singles value their partner’s talents and abilities the most, while Shanghai people think a Shanghai hukou (household registration) is the most important, according to the survey.
In general, personality, ability and outer appearance are the top three factors in evaluating a person on a blind date, followed by income level, height, job and family background.
The survey also found some other fun facts about people’s behavior on blind dates. For instance, 90 percent of the surveyed agreed that showing one’s good sense can help lead to an opportunity for another date.
According to the survey, over 60 percent of the respondents had tried a blind date, and around 62.94 percent said they go on blind dates three times a year. Around 17.96 percent of the surveyed said they attended at least two blind dates per month, which suggests that blind dating has become more popular among single people.
Beijing leads the country in blind date frequency among singles, followed by its counterparts in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Changsha and Shenyang.
In terms of the cost and punctuality of a blind date, most people think that the first blind date should cost less than 500 yuan (US$78.59) and 49 percent of the surveyed think it’s okay if their blind dates are late by less than 10 minutes.
