Covering an area of more than 100 square meters, the city’s first family doctor workshop officially opened in Dongmen Subdistrict, Luohu District on Wednesday morning, the Shenzhen Evening News reported Thursday.

Located in a housing estate called Lixin Garden, the workshop was originally the venue of the residents’ committee of the Lixin estate. The opening of the workshop also marked the launch of a project created by the subdistrict and the Luohu Hospital Group.

A woman surnamed Zhang, who is a long-time resident of the housing estate, said she had come to inquire about the workshop after being attracted to it when she walked in. Within the workshop, there is a health machine that can measure blood sugar, blood lipids, body fat, blood oxygen and uric acid.

Additionally, according to the rota on the wall outside the workshop, there are doctors in general practice, child care, women’s health care and psychological consultation on duty five days a week.

Residents can also learn how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use an AED (automatic external defibrillator) in the workshop.

Yin Zhaoxia, director of the Dongmen community health center, said there are more than 3,700 residents in the housing estate. The workshop focuses on special groups, such as the elderly, women and teenagers, and mainly provides health advice for patients with chronic diseases. It also has a room for psychological consultation.

“Serving as a bridge between hospitals and residents, the workshop is aimed at improving the health of residents. Next, we are going to promote the workshop to other communities and offer courses on daily health education in six local schools,” said Yin.
