Jose Miguel Arellano, mayor of the Chilean city Padre Hurtado in Talagante Province, said he expects more cooperation between China and Chile in the fields of trade and tourism.

As vice chairman of Chile’s new ruling party National Renewal, Arellano is attending the second China-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Political Parties Forum, which kicks off in the city today.

Arellano said that he was very impressed by China’s achievements in the past four decades. Led by the Communist Party of China (CPC), the country has witnessed tremendous changes and made great progress in improving people’s lives.

“China is an ancient country with a history of thousands of years. I believe that only by exploring a suitable mode of development will a country prosper and grow stronger,” said Arellano.

He added that Chile’s National Renewal, the same as China’s CPC, holds an open attitude toward communication. “As long as there is communication, there will be results, as well as a blending and collision of thoughts,” he said.

Arellano said Chile is looking forward to attracting more Chinese enterprises to invest in Chile. Simultaneously, the Chilean Government will make efforts to facilitate the construction of factories in the country by more Chinese enterprises.

Arellano believes that the forum provides a good platform for increasing exchanges between countries regarding governance. He said his biggest expectation for the forum is to gain a deeper understanding of China’s political ideas on country governance and city development.
