With more crises regarding issues such as unemployment, global finance and terrorism emerging in recent years in Britain, more people are turning to Marxism, the fundamental philosophy of socialism, for solutions, said Robert Griffiths, general secretary of the Communist Party of Britain, yesterday in an interview with Chinese media.

“Our party has started to grow again recently,” said Griffiths. Although the Communist Party of Britain has never been a major party in the United Kingdom, it is gaining more attention as more people are starting to read Karl Marx’s theories to reflect on the current situation.

Griffiths said that currently, young people in Western countries are not joining political parties very often, but do tend to protest and complain about issues that are not being dealt with to their satisfaction. However, a group called Young Communist League, which is a party in line with the Communist Party of Britain, is attracting young people to study Marxism in a bid to find solutions.

“The Communist Party of Britain is a small Party in the United Kingdom, but we are gaining more attention now. We are pleased to see that socialism with Chinese characteristics has been working very well in China since the CPC was established 97 years ago.”

Griffiths said that capitalism has caused much damage to labor relationships and the environment, so revolutionary change is essential right now for the United Kingdom. “The financial crisis from 2007 to 2008 and lax management of markets will lead to another crisis in the future, so we must reform to create a more secure nation.”
