A courier with ZTO Express saved a 4-year-old girl who was stuck on the balcony of a building in Gongcun village in Longhua District on May 20, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

Li Bin was unloading parcels when he heard that the girl was about to fall from the balcony seven meters off the ground. Li saw the girl hanging from the balcony, crying.

No one could approach the balcony due to the iron bars installed on it, and neither could anyone get into the room from the neighboring apartments.

Li realized that there was no time to wait for the police or the landlord to open the door, so he came up with the idea of saving the girl by using his car and a ladder.

He parked his car below the girl and placed a ladder that he borrowed from a resident in the estate on top of the car. He then climbed the ladder to reach the girl.

After reaching a safe position, Li kept one foot on the ladder and put the other on the second-floor balcony. He used one hand to support himself on the third-floor balcony and used the other hand to lift up the girl.

With the courier’s support, the girl gradually freed herself from the balcony and returned to safety at her home in five minutes.

To commend Li for his courageous action, the Qinghu branch of ZTO Express offered a him a 2,000-yuan (US$311.6) reward. The ZTO Express headquarters also awarded him 5,000 yuan.

“This is what I ought to do, and I believe anyone would give a hand in that case,” said Li in an interview with the media.

After graduating from a vocational school in Maoming City of Guangdong, Li has been working as a courier for three years.

Chen Si, a person in charge of the Qinghu branch said that Li is a rigorous staffer who is always precise in his work.
