Students taking the gaokao, also known as the National College Entrance Examinations, can call the police hotline at 8333-3333 if emergencies arise during the examination period Thursday and Friday, police announced in a news release yesterday.
If a vehicle carrying students to the exams gets involved in a minor accident without injuries, police will try to release the vehicle from the scene of the accident quickly, after a simple investigation.
For an accident that causes serious damage or injuries, police will arrange for motorcycles to carry the students to exam sites, while the accident investigation progresses. Vehicles carrying examination takers can use bus lanes if traffic is congested in the other lanes. Drivers need to register using the students’ test certificate numbers by calling 8333-3333 within 24 hours of using bus lanes.
Dump trucks will be banned from using roads, and construction sites within 500 meters of the test venues will halt construction.
Nonlocally registered vehicles that will carry examination takers need to apply for a two-day temporary permit to run on roads that restrict nonlocal vehicles during workdays.
All police officers on the traffic police motorcycle squad will be on patrol, and all traffic police officers will be on duty from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. during the two-day exam period to ensure smooth traffic.
A total of 47,600 students will sit for the examinations this year, 4,024 more than last year.
Shenzhen police will set up service stations at all exam venues, providing raincoats, umbrellas, medicine and drinking water. A police car and motorcycle will be on duty at each site in case of emergencies.
During the gaokao period, Guangdong coastal cities, especially Maoming and Zhanjiang in the southwestern part of the province, and Pearl River Delta cities including Shenzhen and Guangzhou, will experience a round of heavy rain due to a tropical low-pressure system that is expected to be reinforced into a typhoon today, according to a weather forecast.
