Shenzhen will offer subsidies of up to 75,000 yuan (US$11,730) over three years for each electric vehicle (EV) used in logistics services, according to a regulation unveiled recently.

The rule makes Shenzhen the first city in China to give subsidies for EVs in logistics, according to the city’s new-energy vehicle promotion center.

To be eligible for the subsidies, logistics companies should have at least 300 registered vehicles and at least one-third of the vehicles are EVs, or they should have at least 50 electricity-powered refrigerated vehicles or container trailers.

The sum of the subsidy for a EV will be determined according to the battery capacity of the vehicle and averaged out over three years with the total capped at 75,000 yuan.

Official figures showed the number of EVs in logistics had reached 366,000 in the city. Shenzhen now has the most electricity-powered logistics vehicles among world cities.
