The 2018 Global Intelligent Vehicle (GIV) Summit is concluding today at the Wuzhou Guest House.

Guided by the Shenzhen Municipal Government and held by China EV100, an influential third-party think tank for the electric vehicle industry in China, the two-day summit is discussing topics like the “GIV development process and path,” “intelligent vehicle cutting edge technologies,” “advanced intelligent vehicle applications and innovation,” “intelligent vehicle testing, scene virtualization, legislation and demonstration” and “intelligent vehicle, smart transportation and 5G/LTE application.”

More than 50 domestic and foreign experts, as well as around 500 representatives from the government, universities, famous companies, startups, and financial institutions, are participating in the summit.

“Intelligent vehicles have great potential for development in China,” said Xu Changming, deputy director general of the State Information Center, at yesterday’s high-level forum. “Like other countries, car companies are focusing on the electrification of the automobile, but the car ownership, population density and the policy support of China are creating the momentum for rapid development,” Xu explained.

Keynote speakers also talked about the issues concerning intelligent vehicle development. “How robotic vehicles should observe the law, and discipline while driving, are some of the issues,” said Yu Zhuoping, assistant principal of Tongji University, adding that 86.6 percent of traffic accidents are due to careless driving.

“Digitization of the road is a development requirement of autonomous vehicle technology,” said Veni Shone, president of Huawei’s LTE Product Line, while introducing Huawei’s Cellular-Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technologies.

The Greater Bay Area Intelligent Vehicle Eco-Partnership (GIVE) has also been jointly formed by Shenzhen Municipal Government and China EV100. GIVE will promote standardization and legislation regarding China’s intelligent vehicle industry with policy support. By attracting and forming an ecosystem for the industry, it will serve as the foundation on which Shenzhen will construct the first qualified unmanned driving test site.

GIVE participants can utilize the innovation atmosphere and capital advantage of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, utilize China EV100’s think tanks and policy proximity, and integrate resources to realize the acceleration and consummation of China’s intelligent vehicle industry ecosystem.
