Dapeng Customs ferreted out more than 3,700 counterfeit handbags with forged shopping receipts at Yantian Port, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported Thursday.

The handbags were counterfeits of well-received brands such as Gucci, Chanel and Louis Vuitton. According to a customs officer in charge of the inspection of these handbags, despite the disparity between the leathers and their pungent smell, the handbags look similar to authentic goods. After consulting relevant trademark proprietors, they were confirmed to be counterfeit.

The handbags were ready for export to England. Customs staff also found some fake receipts, which had been customized in advance in Hong Kong.

Consumers are reminded that goods from overseas come with various types of invoices and receipts , which are different from domestic tax invoices. Consumers need to be cautious when purchasing goods from overseas because shopping receipts are easy to counterfeit. (Cui Chenxin)
